What are F1's cockpit safety solutions?

Justin Wilson's fatal IndyCar accident has brought the topic of driver safety in single-seater racing back into focus. CRAIG SCARBOROUGH explains how closed cockpits and other options could work

World champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are among those in favour of them, Le Mans 24 Hours winner Nico Hulkenberg is against them - the divisive topic of closed cockpits in Formula 1 shows no sign of ending at the moment.

The spotlight on that particular debate has returned in the wake of Justin Wilson's fatal IndyCar accident, with the need to improve driver safety in single-seater racing clear to those on both sides of the argument.
